As the new year rolls around, you’re bound to hear the familiar buzz of "new year, new me." While some people will be all-in with resolutions, others will poke fun at the concept. They might question why you’re setting a big training goal or why you’re suddenly trying to become healthier. It’s almost like there's a constant pull to stay comfortable and not aim too high.
But here’s the thing: you don’t need anyone’s permission to go after your goals. You don't need validation from the “realists” or the skeptics. 2025 is your year to level up—and I’m giving you the green light to go after something that scares you a little. It’s time to stop holding back.
Set a goal that pushes you outside of your comfort zone
If your goal doesn’t make you a bit nervous, it’s probably not big enough. You need to set a goal that will push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to grow. Whether it's signing up for a race, hitting a new PR in the gym, or improving your nutrition habits, aim for something you’ve never done before.
This could be anything:
Running a 5K or a marathon
Committing to exercise 3 times a week
Adjusting your nutrition to focus on whole foods
Lifting heavier weights or hitting a fitness milestone
Choose something that excites you and scares you all at once. That’s how you’ll know it’s right.
Make a plan and stay consistent
Once you’ve set your big goal, it’s time to make a plan. A goal without a plan is just a wish. Take time to break it down into smaller, manageable steps. This could mean setting aside specific times for workouts, planning meals ahead of time, or creating a timeline for how you’ll train for an event.
The key to achieving any goal is consistency. Sure, there will be days when it’s hard to stay motivated, but what got you here won’t get you there. You’ll have to prioritize your goal, say no to distractions, and push through on the tough days. On those days when it feels like quitting is easier, remember: your mind will give up before your body does. Keep going.
Prove to yourself that you can do hard things
The journey toward achieving big goals isn’t always smooth. There will be setbacks, tough moments, and times when it feels easier to give up. But this is where the magic happens. Proving to yourself that you can do hard things is what builds confidence and strength.
When you feel like giving up, remind yourself that you’re capable of more than you think. Your body can take on more than your mind will allow you to believe, so push through the doubts and stay committed. When you keep showing up, even when it’s tough, you’ll realize that your limits are much further than you originally thought.
Stop making excuses and go for it
At some point, you need to stop waiting for the "perfect time" to get started. You have the tools, the resources, and the time right now to begin. Stop putting things off. Take the first step, and the next step will follow.
When you stop making excuses and give yourself no other option but to succeed, you WILL achieve something you once thought was impossible. It might not happen overnight, but each small step will get you closer to your goal.
You’re capable of more than you think
2025 is the year for transformation. Whether your goal is to run faster, lift heavier, or adopt a healthier lifestyle, this is your time to attack the obstacles that have been holding you back.
Take a moment to think about the person you want to become. Imagine yourself achieving that goal you’re afraid to go after. You are capable of more than you think. The potential is already there within you. Now, it’s time to unleash it.
Let’s do this together
This year, let’s commit to no more excuses. Let’s stop letting fear hold us back and start pushing toward our big goals. You’ve got this, and I’m here to cheer you on every step of the way.
2025 is the year you level up. It's your time to grow, challenge yourself, and achieve something extraordinary. So, what are you waiting for? You got this.
